Join us on Thursday, Mar. 28 for “Haltn Gezang! (Keep Singing!): Songs & stories of Jewish America” featuring Michael Hersher. A free dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the program from 7-8:30 p.m. This event takes place in the social hall at Bethany Presbyterian Church (5625 24th St., Sacramento).
Topics will include:
- Michael & his background
- How music is central in both traditional and modern Jewish worship services and life cycle events (i.e. weddings & bar mitzvahs)
- A quick tour through the role of Jews in the American music industry
About Michael Hersher: Michael grew up in a Jewish family in New York, where his grandparents (immigrants from Eastern Europe) spoke Yiddish. Now a resident of Sacramento, Michael has been a lawyer for over 40 years, and for the past 20 years has been involved in Jewish worship music and helped lead services at Congregation B’Nai Israel. He also has performed Jewish, Latino, and political songs around Sacramento.
